Half Time Break!!

No, the ACLU has not prevented me from using the term "Christmas"when talking about our break between semesters.  It's just that as an old coach (emphasis on old) I sometimes still express myself in sports terms or coach speak. (I didn't claim to be proud of it I'm just trying to explain it, so be prepared!)

Anyway, our break starting next week (Christmas Break, sorry ACLU!) signals the unofficial halfway point in our school year.  So I thought this would be a good time to evaluate our first half performance.

First Half Analysis by the old coach

Although most coaching staffs probably would have started the season off with a couple of conservative running plays we came out in the first half going for broke with a "Hail Mary" play by giving all of our 9 - 12 students a new laptop computer.  It really seemed to get the crowd into the action and raise our teams intensity to a fever pitch. Although we had a few off-sides and illegal procedure penalties, no major infractions have occurred so far! (knock on wood!)   I believe this is a direct reflection on our coaching staff as they spent long hours reviewing game film (visiting other 1:1 schools) and developing a solid game plan. (new technology policies) If I had to give our offense a grade for the first half it would have to be a good solid A-!! (there is always room for improvement!!)

Defensively we had to be prepared for the Iowa Department of Education as they blitzed us with a site visit in November.  Even though we felt like we had a solid game plan in place and had our players well prepared they were able to find a few cracks in our defensive line.  Although we did not commit any turn overs and I wasn't sacked (football reference, not job reference) we will need to make some adjustments in the second half to shore up our defense.  Our defensive grade for the first half would have to be a B+

It's been a great first half of the school year and we need to keep the momentum going into the second half. We'll be short eleven of our key players (early graduates) but we'll continue to work hard to get the maximum effort out of our remaining team.

Here's hoping that you have a great Christmas Break filled with family and friends (and plenty of football!!)

Merry Christmas!!
