Schedule for the Week of November 1 - 7

The first full week of November brings us the end of the fall sports season and a slight, very slight break before the winter sports season gets rolling.  That doesn't mean we don't have things going on here at Audubon Community School. Since we are a "community" school we open our facility up to take blood from donors on Monday, facilitate the democratic process by letting people in to vote on Tuesday, entertain people on Friday and Saturday with our fall play and end the week by feeding the masses on Sunday with our band smorgasbord. To all who access our fine facility for these events we welcome you.  Here's my schedule for the week:

I Hate to Say Anything But.........

Since the major league baseball playoffs are in full swing (pun intended) I thought that they would serve as a perfect backdrop for this update to my blog.

Baseball is full of superstition and quirky unwritten rules that have evolved over the long, rich history of the game.  One of those superstitions/rules is that when a pitcher has a no-hitter or perfect game going no one on his team is suppose to point that out....or even talk to him for that matter!!

The premise is, "if you talk about it, something bad will happen."

If a team mate points out that the other team doesn't have a hit yet, then the next batter will get a hit...if it's a perfect game and someone talks about it on the bench, then the next batter will reach base some way, some how.

Stupid?  Definitely!!

True? Well, anybody whose ever played the game will swear that it's true and they can cite several examples of the "jinx" ruining a great pitching performance!

So I might be tempting the fates! violating the rules! thumbing my nose at the gods! but......"aren't we having some beautiful fall weather?"

There it is!!  I can hear the gasp from here!!  The look of panic on every old ballplayers face!!  I mentioned the great weather so that can mean only one thing........SNOW!!
Forget the National Weather Service, forget the Weather Channel, heck, forget the Farmer's Almanac....I've just put the hex on the perfect fall we've been having!!

It had to happen!!  I needed to get my information out concerning winter weather and snow days....I put it off for as long as I dare, but it had to be done.

Once again the Audubon Community School will be using "School Alert," as our primary source to get news and information out to our patrons concerning weather related announcements.(along with the local radio stations in Carrol, Atlantic and Harlan and the Des Moines TV stations) On this blog (upper left hand corner under Superintendent's links) you will find a link that will allow you to sign up for this service.  You have the option of being notified by email, text message or both whenever the school places an announcement on the site.  This allows you to be notified no matter whether your at home, work or on the road when winter weather strikes. If you have never signed up before please use the link to do so...if you have used School Alert in the past you shouldn't have to do a thing. (unless of course your email or cellphone number or carrier has changed)

So click on the link and sign up today because the spell has been broken; the hex is on, and bad weather is just around the corner!!

Schedule for the week of October 11 - October 16

Here's my plan...instead of putting out my weekly schedule through email like I usually do.  I'll place it on my new webpage so that people will need to log on to my site to read it.....that will cause an increase in the traffic to my website!!  Advertisers will see that increase (as servers world wide slow down!!) and will want to advertise on my site.  At first I will say no, claiming that its a public service, that its for the good of the students...you know, taking the high road.  But eventually, when the offers reach six figures, I'll sell out and let them put pop-ups on my blog site.  Then I'll retire and enjoy the good life.....a man and his dreams!!

Until then, for the two followers I have (thanks Nicki and Carrie) here is my schedule for next week:

Making the Switch

Now that I have discovered Google, specifically Google Blogger, I realized that I needed to switch my Superintendent blog from Edublogger to Google.  It is just so much easier to use...plus I can manage both of my blogs (that's right I have two now!!) from the same site.

My only concern is whether or not all of my followers from my old edublogger site will be able to follow me to my new site.  I mean I have my wife, my daughter..maybe one of my four sisters and......well anyway I have three followers who I think would miss me if I suddenly stopped blogging....although my wife and daughter could stop worrying about me embarrassing them on the Internet every time they see a new post from me.

I do think that since both of my blogs (did I mention that I now have two!) will be on the same site I will update them more frequently and since Blogger is so easy to use, I hope to be able to add more pictures and video to make my site more interesting (less of my dribble to read equals more interesting blog site)

Let me think about this.....now, instead of fretting over what I should write, I also have to worry about what pictures/video I should put on my blog.....maybe this switch isn't such a good idea after all.
