Audubon Community School Reverses Enrollment Trend

At the October board meeting Superintendent Brett Gibbs reported that the Audubon Community School District saw an overall increase in enrollment numbers as compared to the previous school year. The districts Certified Enrollment saw an increase of 9.2 students over last year’s enrollment numbers.  This increase reverses the trend of declining enrollment that the district has witnessed since 2008 – 2009.  Here are the enrollment comparison numbers that Gibbs shared with the board:

Superintendent Gibbs pointed out to the board that to truly appreciate the increase in enrollment, you need to take into consideration what the projected enrollment numbers were from October of 2013.  “Last October we were projecting that our certified enrollment numbers would be around 518 students, a decrease of seven students,” Gibbs told the board,  “so a certified enrollment of 534.5 students actually works out to be an increase of 16.5 students!”

A closer look at the enrollment numbers shows that all of the growth took place in the elementary grades.   The largest two classes at Audubon Community School are this year’s Senior class at 51.1 (including 4 Foreign Exchange students) and the Kindergarten/5 – yr. old class of 58.4 students.   The two smallest classes are the 8th and 9th grade classes which have 27.5  and 31 students enrolled respectfully.
