I Hate to Say Anything But.........

Since the major league baseball playoffs are in full swing (pun intended) I thought that they would serve as a perfect backdrop for this update to my blog.

Baseball is full of superstition and quirky unwritten rules that have evolved over the long, rich history of the game.  One of those superstitions/rules is that when a pitcher has a no-hitter or perfect game going no one on his team is suppose to point that out....or even talk to him for that matter!!

The premise is, "if you talk about it, something bad will happen."

If a team mate points out that the other team doesn't have a hit yet, then the next batter will get a hit...if it's a perfect game and someone talks about it on the bench, then the next batter will reach base some way, some how.

Stupid?  Definitely!!

True? Well, anybody whose ever played the game will swear that it's true and they can cite several examples of the "jinx" ruining a great pitching performance!

So I might be tempting the fates! violating the rules! thumbing my nose at the gods! but......"aren't we having some beautiful fall weather?"

There it is!!  I can hear the gasp from here!!  The look of panic on every old ballplayers face!!  I mentioned the great weather so that can mean only one thing........SNOW!!
Forget the National Weather Service, forget the Weather Channel, heck, forget the Farmer's Almanac....I've just put the hex on the perfect fall we've been having!!

It had to happen!!  I needed to get my information out concerning winter weather and snow days....I put it off for as long as I dare, but it had to be done.

Once again the Audubon Community School will be using "School Alert," as our primary source to get news and information out to our patrons concerning weather related announcements.(along with the local radio stations in Carrol, Atlantic and Harlan and the Des Moines TV stations) On this blog (upper left hand corner under Superintendent's links) you will find a link that will allow you to sign up for this service.  You have the option of being notified by email, text message or both whenever the school places an announcement on the site.  This allows you to be notified no matter whether your at home, work or on the road when winter weather strikes. If you have never signed up before please use the link to do so...if you have used School Alert in the past you shouldn't have to do a thing. (unless of course your email or cellphone number or carrier has changed)

So click on the link and sign up today because the spell has been broken; the hex is on, and bad weather is just around the corner!!
